On Tuesday (December 24, 2024), Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, stated that people are facing hardships due to rising prices and are being forced to cut back on even the smallest daily necessities, while the government remains oblivious, like ‘Kumbhakaran’ from the Ramayana, who would only wake up once every six months.

Mr. Gandhi posted a video on his social media accounts about his recent visit to a vegetable market in Giri Nagar, where he interacted with housewives who shared their struggles with the rising cost of food items.

“Recently, I visited a local vegetable market. While shopping alongside the customers, I spoke with the vendors to understand how inflation is affecting people’s budgets and causing hardship for everyone,” Mr. Gandhi mentioned in his post along with the video.

“People are facing difficulties due to escalating prices and are being forced to make sacrifices on basic daily necessities,” the former Congress chief said in his post, written in Hindi.

“We talked about the rising costs of garlic, peas, mushrooms, and other vegetables, and listened to the real-life experiences of people. The prices of garlic at ₹400 per kg and peas at ₹120 per kg have disrupted everyone’s budgets,” he added.

He questioned, “What will people eat, and how will they manage to save?”
